Vic Drugs Inquiry – Submissions So Far
The first lot (117 so far) of public submissions to the Inquiry into Drug Law Reform have been made available on the Victorian Government website.
After a very quick skim through, the vast majority of the public submissions are calling for a reform of our current drug laws and policies. Submissions range from simple, short and anecdotal to detailed and full of diagrams.
There may have been some confusion with another inquiry, which is looking specifically at a Supervised Injecting Centre, as some of the submissions are solely focused on this issue. But the Drug Law Reform inquiry had broad Terms of Reference and the issue was bound to arise in that inquiry also. You still have time to make a submission regarding a supervised injecting centre.
The Legal and Social Issues Committee invites written submissions from individuals and organisations addressing one or more of the issues identified in the terms of reference
To assist with your submission, please see the guidelines for Making a Written Submission to a Parliamentary Committee.
The submission closing date is Thursday 13 April 2017
I only managed to find two public submissions from people outwardly calling for what political scientists officially refer to as “backward-ass policies”.
Marina “Your friendly ideas person” Stehle is calling for the “Restoration of Peace (sic) in Australia”. She claims that “Judgement day is here” and laments on our government’s policies that are far “tooooo” lenient. What does Ms. Stehle believe we should do?
Reintroducing capital punishment in general… minor first offender, they would have time in (jail) to rehabilitate, basically given one chance, in any serious or repeat offender cases though capital punishment should be the penalty… Those currently in prison should all be retrospectively judged for their actions also, to clean out the overcrowded prisons of the bad ones.
What strikes me is that her submission was one of the only ones that had religiousy sounding overtones, without actually saying so. Too often, weak minded people fall back on a mystically ravenous versions/visions of their religion to try and solve problems in a hell-scape of an imaginary-territory.
How much of a difference is there between this kind of thinking and those who throw homosexuals off buildings and stone them to death, those who behead women for not following oppressive, arbitrary rulings and those who order middle-of-the-night murder squads. These are people who excuse their disgusting, devilish (ha) actions by pretending that they have all of reality figured out, that they are in on the know of what’s really real about everything in this Universe. They don’t take responsibility for their own thoughts, actions and emotions, choosing to abdicate them before the throne of their deity. The ultimate scapegoating.
John Brandenburg just wants these drug people thrown into a “rehabilitation centre out in the desert somewhere.”
That’s because, like… drugs are illegal. So a supervised injecting centre is nonsense, because drugs are illegal! Is the government ON drugs or something? Sheesh! Drugs are illegal because they’re bad and therefore drugs are illegal. How can you not get this?
We look forward to seeing the rest of the submissions become available soon.
